About Cat
People always ask me how I ended up in such a unique career. Honestly? It started because I’m a hairy b*tch.
Growing up, hair removal wasn’t what it is today. I had dark, coarse hair and basically two options: shave and suffer or just accept my fate. Razor burn, ingrowns, irritation, I experienced it all. My life changed in the early 2000s when I was working at a tanning salon (yes… we all made questionable skincare choices back then) and discovered a sugaring hair removal studio upstairs. After my first appointment, I was HOOKED! Smooth skin without the trauma? Say less.
Around the same time, I was taking classes at community college and had to do a project researching a career. Wanting to stand out, and maybe shock the class a little, I chose esthetics. Back then, nobody even knew how to pronounce “esthetician.” I got an A on the project and realized this could actually be my life. The very next semester, I enrolled in the Esthetics program at Hair Professionals Career College in Sycamore, Illinois.
If you couldn’t find me in classroom, I was in the wax room! I quickly discovered I wasn’t afraid of ripping out some hair and became one of the only students performing Brazilian hair removal services. In 2007, I became a licensed Illinois Esthetician and certified Advanced Body Sugar Specialist, and in 2008 I opened Sugar Me Skin Care & Hair Removal.
Building a business focused entirely on hair removal, especially Brazilians, wasn’t exactly the easy route. But I believed in creating a space where clients felt comfortable, unjudged, and maybe even laughed a little during an appointment most people walk into terrified of.
Over the years, I’ve continued leveling up my education, completing the Medical Esthetics Program at The New Age Spa Institute and earning Arch Addicts™ certification, while also working alongside industry leaders like Se-Brazil Waxes as a Midwest Educator. Today, through Sugar Me Academy, I teach sugaring and waxing classes to licensed cosmetologists and estheticians who want to master the craft.
Somewhere along the way, clients started calling me “The Coochie Barber”.
In 2021, I officially trademarked the name!

Eighteen years later, Sugar Me Rockford has become the city’s #1 Brazilian Sugaring Studio! My mission has always been simple: help people feel confident in their skin while making an intimidating service feel normal, comfortable, and even fun.
A great hair removal service isn’t just about being smooth; it’s about confidence, comfort, and trusting the person holding the sugar!
